An Open Letter to Dentist and Oral Surgeons:
A large number of people are still suffering with Trigeminal Neuralgia and Facial Pains and many go years without being diagnosed or they're misdiagnosed. As a dentist or oral surgeon, it is quite likely that they wind up in your office. We want to make you aware of some of the newer information in the field of facial pain.
You can learn about current research on cures for TN at www.facingfacialpain.org . Current thinking on and classifications of facial pain related to the trigeminal nerve can be found here: http://www.fpa-support.org/2011/05/a-new-classification-of-facial-pain-a-patient-oriented-classification-scheme-for-facial-pains-2/ (updated on 04/2013).
Education specifically for dentists and oral surgeons developed by Neurosurgeon Peter Jannetta and Oral Surgeon Henry Gremillion, “Trigeminal Neuralgia: A Primer for the Oral Health Care Professional and Patients” can be ordered by sending an e-mail to ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ . On-going support for patients experiencing TN or facial pain is available at facepainhelp.com. In addition, www.tnnme.com is an international awareness building organization that is internet-and facebook- based.
Neurosurgeon Albert Rhoton Jr., M.D., a Facial Pain Research Foundation trustee who treated more than 3,000 patients with trigeminal neuralgia before retiring from 40 years of surgical practice at the University of Florida, says it is time to find a cure.
Please join in helping to relieve the pain of Trigeminal Neuralgia, facial pain and helping to find a cure. Each one doing what one can. Thank you!
